Weyerhaeuser's Columbia Timberlands business is seeking two (2) experienced Forester/Silviculturists. These are new roles within the Columbia Timberlands staffing structure. One opening will be located in Longview, WA and will primarily support our Southwest Washington operations. The other opening will primarily support our Oregon Cascades operations and be located in the Silverton or Sandy, Oregon area. These roles will report to the respective Tree Farm Team Leader and will be an integral part of the Tree Farm team, with accountabilities to Columbia's Lead Forester for silviculture activities in their respective area and assisting with efforts across the organization's other forest areas. It is a full time, exempt position.

The Southwest Washington operation, based in Longview, WA, is comprised of 96,000 acres and stretches from Ilwaco to Wilkeson to the White Salmon / Klickitat area in Southwest Washington.

The Oregon Cascades operation is comprised of 122,300 acres with responsibility for managing the company's lands that stretch from Mill City to Hood River, Oregon. Tree Farm offices are maintained in Sandy and Silverton, Oregon.

This position will be a part of the team that is responsible for the planning and safe execution of field forestry activities. Primary functions include: site preparation, planting, land exams, vegetation control, stocking control, commercial thinning, fertilization and fire protection. In addition to the primary functions, this position will also flow to work to assist in supporting the team in unit/road layout, contract supervision and other related activities as needed.

Key Functions:
Key responsibilities include:
Providing energy, critical thinking and enthusiasm for all tree growing activities.
Making silvicultural prescriptions based on judgment, experience and data.
Project layout, using aerial photos, maps, GIS systems and ground reconnaissance.
Contract administration including negotiation, bidding, project supervision and making payments.
Assist in projecting future seedling needs for regeneration projects. Developing seedling sow orders, and serving as a liaison with both internal and external nurseries.
Supervising aerial and ground based herbicide applications.
Developing and tracking budgets and key silvicultural metrics.
Keeping careful and accurate records of silvicultural activities.
Using computers for planning, tracking, and forestry inventory.
Fire preparedness, firefighting and other asset protection functions as required.
Being an advocate for industrial forestry
Being a role model and mentor for entry level foresters.
Occasional presentations to colleagues and senior management.
Must model and inspect for safe work practices at all times.
Act as company representative with landowners, government agencies, and community representatives. Ensure compliance with state and federal safety statues, environmental requirements and Weyerhaeuser resource and stewardship goals.
Flow to work in support of other team activities and initiatives as needed.

Qualifications:
BS Forest Management or closely related field, with a minimum of 5 years of forestry experience.
Must be highly motivated, a self-directed team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
Able to develop, prioritize, plan, implement and manage activities to meet targets and deadlines.
Strong analytical skills; proficient with personal computers and related software applications such as MS Word, Excel and Outlook, and GIS systems.
Valid driver's license is required as work involves driving company vehicles on rough roads (25,000 miles per year).
Approximately 50% of work time is spent in the field, much of it on steep or broken ground covered with slash and brush.
Field work accomplished under variety of weather conditions; all that the Northwest has to offer.
Operations are highly weather dependent; work may include occasional weekend work.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
