Weyerhaeuser's Longview Timberlands operation, based out of Castle Rock, WA, has an opening for a Journey Level Heavy Equipment/Diesel Mechanic. We are seeking individuals who desire to work in a market-focused logging environment.
Our Longview Timberlands operating area is over 400,000 acres, stretching from south of Kalama Washington, north past the Longview area to Toledo Washington and reaching east to Mount St Helens.
This is a full-time hourly position. Hourly employees at this operation are represented by the IAM-AW Union. Benefits (in accordance with the Labor Agreement) include Medical, Dental, Vision, Pension and 401k plans, vacation and holidays. Rate of pay ranges from $25.78 to $26.97/hour, depending on experience/skills/abilities.
Key Functions:
Efficiently and effectively perform diagnostic, repair and maintenance work on logging and construction equipment, as well as other rolling stock (e.g. log trucks, crew transportation vehicles, fire equipment, etc.).
Effectively interface with operators to quickly detect, diagnose/trouble shoot and repair equipment failures on a variety of makes and models of logging/construction equipment.
Maximize equipment uptime by pre-ordering parts, schedule maintenance to minimize production impacts per machine and total system coordinating with foreman, track/capture warranty issues, communicate well with a variety of vendors via phone/email.
Implement and continually improve Preventative Maintenance Program for individual machines (includes shop truck) tracked on computers by mechanic and accessible to foreman. PMP will include dialog with and training of operators to identify and prevent potential problems (e.g. track and schedule servicing, change major wear items on established lives per machine/operator, use PMP records to assist in forecasting next year maintenance costs, etc.).

2 year college degree in Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanics with minimum of 2 years experience in the field; or a minimum of 7 years experience in the field with high school diploma or GED. (Field experience is considered as maintenance and repair of construction and logging equipment such as Cat, John Deere, Madill, Komatsu, Linkbelt, Hitachi, etc. as well as other rolling stock.)
Possess a valid CDL, or be able to obtain within the first 6-months of employment.
Have your own basic mechanic hand tools through inch.
Solid work history with a demonstrated commitment to safety and quality.
Strong listening and communication skills.
Self motivated; effective team player; and ability to work with others in a safe and efficient manner under field conditions as required.
Competency in new technological advancements, such as remote diagnostics (engine/machine downloads, radio/phone walk through with operator), as well as personal computer skills.
Field work accomplished under variety of weather conditions; all that the Northwest has to offer.
