Biological Science Laboratory Technician
Only experience and education obtained by closing date will be considered. To qualify at the GS-6 level, you must possess one of the following:
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or higher in the Federal Service, or equivalent non-federal experience. Specialized experience is defined as:
1) Working in a laboratory setting, preparing biological samples for analysis; 2) Assisting with operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment; and 3) Recording, compiling, and organizing biological data. B. Completed 6 months of post-graduate education in an accredited college or university that is directly related to this position. To qualify at the GS-7 level, you must possess one of the following:
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or higher in the Federal Service, or equivalent non-federal experience. Specialized experience is defined as:
1) preparing laboratory solutions, and assists in extracting DNA from tissue samples; 2) assisting with basic statistical and genetic analysis; and 3) assisting with the standard aspects of maintaining specialized genetic laboratory equipment such as thermo-cyclers, automated DNA sequencers, and centrifuges. B. One full year of graduate level education directly related to the work of this position. Promotion Potential:
This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed represent the full performance level of GS-0404-7. At lower grade levels, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-0404-07. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.The selectee may be promoted without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
